Aquafit Instructor
The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury’s new Leisure Centre includes a state of the art aquatics centre with an eight lane competitive/lap pool, leisure pool with aquatic features and a relaxation/therapy pool.  The Department of Leisure Services is looking for energetic, highly motivated and organized individuals to join their team.

Reporting to the Fitness Supervisor, the Aquafit Instructor provides direct leadership to deliver Aquafitness classes and provides a superior experience to our members in program areas.  This role will plan, organize and instruct classes for all ages and abilities while creating and maintaining a safe, clean and comfortable environment for participants. 

Preferred candidates must have significant experience in the delivery of Aquafit classes, understand the principles of water and possess the ability to instruct safe classes for all levels of participants.  Candidates will have an Aquafitness Certification (CALA – Canadian Aqua Fitness Leaders Alliance, WaterArt, YMCA or equivalent) as well as a current First Aid, AED, and CPR level C certification.  The successful candidates will have proven interpersonal and relationship building skills and the ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, guests, staff and volunteers.  Candidates must be available to work flexible hours including days, evenings and weekends may be required as part of regular schedule or for meetings, and/or special events.  All applicants must be at least 16 years of age to apply and will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening. 

The position offers an hourly wage of $22.00 to $26.50.

The West Park Health Care Centre (401 & Weston Rd) is looking for an Aquatic Therapist for two classes on Wednesday mornings.

West Park Healthcare Centre - www.westpark.org - is currently looking for a qualified instructor to run its Wednesday 10:15AM aquafit class.

The Centre runs seven warm-pool chronic pain aquafit classes and is located in the Jane/Eglinton area of northwest Toronto. The instructor would be responsible for the Wednesday class, and ideally also provide coverage for other classes as needed.

SCOPE:
Aquatic Team Lead reports directly to the Aquatic Supervisor. They provides hands on program delivery, oversee deck operations though a designated shift time, coordinating the provision of lifeguarding and instructional services to ensure exceptional teamwork and world class guest, member and student service at Syncrude Aquatic Centre at MacDonald Island Park Corporation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provide excellent lifeguarding and instructional service (hands on program delivery).
  2. Oversee designated shift times, ensuring adherence to provincial legislation, best practices and internal policies and procedures.
  3. Ensure safe and proper employee rotation, to include breaks.
  4. Ensure world-class member, guest and student service.
  5. Respond to, or appropriately direct swim lesson and other inquires.
  6. Provide a leadership role in rescues and first aid situations when required.
  7. Assist Aquatic Supervisors and the Aquatic Centre Manager, as required.
  8. Ensure water and air sampling and the recording of sampling results accurately and on time.
  9. Ensure equipment checks.
  10. Perform and ensure wristband checks occur on an ongoing basis.
  11. Provide ongoing feedback in a timely manner.
  12. Wear designated uniform while on duty.
  13. Coach, mentor and develop teammates.
  14. Complete reports appropriately and in a timely manner.
  15. Be familiar with opening and closing procedures and perform opening and closing checks.
  16. Conduct new employee, lifeguard- and instructor-in-training and volunteer orientations.
  17. Ensure the safe use of employee protective equipment.
  18. Oversee an assigned portfolio of administrative responsibilities which may include (i) first aid, (ii) swim team liaison, (iii) aquatic fitness, (iv) leadership training, (v) equipment maintenance and retail sales, (vi) facility maintenance, (vii) assistant lifeguards, or (viii) program inventory and purchasing.
  19. Assists in the preparation and delivery of regular in-service training events for employees and volunteers.

Aquatic Therapy InstructorsJob Requirements:
• The successful candidate will hold a valid CALA (Canadian Aqua Fitness Leaders Alliance), AEA (Aquatic Exercise Association), Water Art, or certification program that meets the NFLA standards or equivalent.
• CALA Post Aquatic Rehabilitation & Aquatic Arthritis training/certification or Water Art Rehabilitation Specialist training/certification or equivalent or Rehabilitation training/certification
• The successful candidate will hold a current 565 approved Emergency First Aid/CPR B certification.
• A minimum of one year of direct and continuous exercise leadership experience.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Employment offer is conditional upon receipt of a Criminal Record Search Vulnerable Sector Screening that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:• Can-Fit- Pro or/ CALA or / or Water Art Personal Trainer Specialist certification
• B.Sc (P.T.)
• B.SC (H.K.)
• Physiotherapist Assistant Program
• Current National Lifeguard Service (NLS)

Job Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing Aquafit classes suited to the present needs of the program participants that is fun, safe and technically sound and to meet the objectives and goals of the program.
• Lead the designated class in a professional manner and create a safe and enjoyable climate.
• Adhere to class format guidelines provided by the Aquatic Supervisor.
• Perform an Intensity check as per guidelines.
• Demonstrate appropriate public relations when dealing with all customers and share information about the community centre (as provided) to class participants.
• Report any concerns to appropriate supervisor(s).
• Attend a minimum of 3 related training workshop /seminar annually or 1 major conference.
• Read, understand and abide by all City and Divisional standards, Corporate Policies and Procedures, including the Human Resources Policies and respecting Employee Conduct, Health and Safety and Freedom of Information.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Hourly Rate: $22.48 - $34.69
