WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

: Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Aqua-fit/Pool Instructor will be part of the Program Team and work with the pool staff to assist older adults 55+ reach their health goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Current National Lifesaving Society Certification (NLS) or Bronze Cross

2. Current First Aid and CPR Certification;

3. Experience leading exercise programs or group classes

4. Experience working with seniors or older adult population an asset

5. Good communication skills, warm friendly personality, superior customer service skills

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide aqua-fit programs, rehabilitation exercises and guidance to pool participants

2. Support and motivate others to achieve their health and fitness goals

3. Welcome and educate members to the pool

4. To serve as an effective member of the Centre program team

5. To adhere to Fairview philosophy

Our pool is open M-F 8:30-4:30 with various classes throughout. Our programs are mainly rehab and therapeutic, but we offer aquafit and arthritic programs as well. The rate of pay is $16.32 per hour.

Reporting to the Executive Director of the residence, the Director of Recreation is accountable to provide recreation services that enhance lives and maximize Revera Residents' wellness through high quality recreation and rehabilitation products and programs ensuring that our Residents are engaged and stimulated physically, socially, spiritually, intellectually, vocationally and emptionally in compliance with regulatory, legislative and organizational standards.
Responsibilities

  • Ensure the quality of recreation, wellness and leisure services in compliance with professional, regulatory, legislative and / or organizational standards;
  • Plan, develop and facilitate meaningful recreation / leisure programs;
  • Ensure residents are aware of recreation / leisure opportunities available to them by creating and distributing monthly recreation calendars and newsletters;
  • Schedule all Recreation staff to ensure appropriate mix of staff and hours, balancing profitability and service outcomes;
  • Ensure that the Recreation department is compliant with regulatory and / or organizational standards;
  • Build and sustain a high performance Recreation team ;
  • Participate in the development of the annual operating quality / Business Plan, including operating budget, capital budgets, marketing plan (if applicable) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) / Risk Management;;
  • Implement and monitor all approved recreation budgets and plans, and introduce corrective strategies when there is a budget / plan variance;
  • Promote Resident autonomy, independence and advocacy, including Residents’ rights and a culture of non-abuse;
  • Ensure completion of leisure interest profiles for Independent Living (IL) and move-in and ongoing assessment to plan for Assisted Living (AL);
  • Escalate resident or family complaints to the Executive Director if beyond the scope of Director Recreation;
  • Effectively promote the Resident’s Council, including attendance at Council meetings upon invitation;
  • Provide or participate in residence tours with prospective Residents, clients or families and ensure appropriate recreation, wellness and leisure information is provided;
  • Ensure appropriate supply and maintenance of all recreation equipment and supplies in compliance with Revera policies, practices and standards and in compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements, while maintaining budget requirements;
  • Ensure that purchasing (operating and capital) is conducted in accordance with policy, practices and standards and with approved vendors;
  • Ensure all Resident records are current, and maintained in accordance with policies, practices and standards;
  • Uphold and promote the organization’s values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Revera’s Code of Conduct ;
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Diploma or undergraduate degree in wellness or exercise, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or a related field
  • A current membership with the applicable professional body and competency to perform skills within their scope of practice (i.e.: Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association [CTRA])
  • A minimum of three (3) years experience, preferably in a healthcare setting such as geriatrics or adult wellness programming; minimum 2 years in Management role
  • Current CPR / First Aid Certification; Class 4 / Class “F” driver’s license
  • Certification in specific wellness related interventions (i.e. Seniors Fitness, Montessori-based Dementia Programming, Seniors Aqua fitness, etc.) would be considered an asset
  • Strong leadership skills, and experience in managing staff and volunteers
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to respectfully and compassionately work with older adults and their families
  • Business management background and skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and electronic health records

JOB TITLE: Aquatics Supervisor (Permanent part to full time 30 to 40 hrs per week)
REPORTS TO: Fitness Supervisor / Director of Fitness
DEPARTMENT: Sports
SUMMARY: Ensures that the club’s aquatic programs are efficiently and professionally managed and executed. Acts as a role model to all Aquatic members and staff, representing the Royal Canadian Yacht Club.
DUTIES:
  • Hires, evaluates and manages all aquatic personnel. Ensures that all aquatic personnel submit required certifications and documentation. Maintain current information on file.
  • Manages and schedules swim instructors, lifeguards and pool deck assistants.
  • Follows the guideline of the RCYC Mission and Vision Statements and supports the RCYC’s standards and objectives of sports excellence to achieve the highest level of member satisfaction.
  • Enforces Club and Aquatics Section Policies, Rules, Regulations.
  • Prepares and distributes marketing / advertising material of programs to aquatic staff, management and members to ensure all parties are properly advised.
  • Prepares and submits all billing for private lessons; track and maintain all lesson and billing adjustments as needed and submit to the Sports Coordinator.
  • Prepare and submit payroll documentation for all aquatic staff in a timely and efficient manner and in accordance with requirements established by accounting and by the Sports Coordinator.
  • Keeps abreast of all changes to Rules and Regulations of the Red Cross, Life Saving Society and any other organizing body in Aquatics that the RCYC may associate with.
  • Liaises with the Director of Sailing (Mike Milner), maintenance, housekeeping and pool maintenance contract company to ensure effective maintenance and daily operation of the pool (City Pool, Island Pool).
  • Ensures chemical testing is done twice daily / every two hours as required - by yourself or scheduled staff
  • Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of the pool, pool deck area, equipment and office areas.
  • Summer Program: Coordinates Camp programming and swim times with other head instructors (sailing, summer camp, etc.).
  • Attends all Sports / Fitness meetings as required and / or provides a brief report regarding aquatic programs and events.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by Director of Fitness, Sailing Director or General Manager.
REQUIREMENTS:

  • N.L.S., Red Cross Instructors Training, First Aid, CPR.
  • Three to five years teaching / swim instruction experience.
  • AquaFitness / Aquatic Exercise Therapy Certification (i.e. CALA) and experience an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be fully versed in, and ensure compliance with all standards and conventions of municipal, provincial and federal health and safety regulations as they apply to the aquatics section.
  • Maintains the highest standards of performance and professionalism. Exhibits good manners, clean and proper dress in accordance with club and aquatics section dress codes.
  • Proficient in MS office.
