Job Description/Duties:
The incumbent assists with ensuring the effective use of staffing resources and delivery of programs in the Aquatic Centre section of the Canada Games Centre. 1. Plans, schedules, directs and ensures the quality of work of Aquatic staff. Also trains assigned staff and contributes to their recruitment, performance appraisals and disciplinary action. 2. Enforces established standards of conduct and decorum. 3. Answers or distributes enquiries and distributes information. 4. Directs the Aquatic staff in the development and implementation of in-service training, program activities and special events. 5. Maintains statistics, prepares reports and under the direction of the Program Supervisor, prepares and monitors budgets for the Aquatic Centre. 6. Maintains aquatic equipment inventory, researches and purchases supplies and materials and prepares preliminary proposal calls and tenders. 7. Follows and ensures that reporting staff follow, so far as reasonably practicable, established safety procedure and standards. 8. Participates, on a weekly basis, in the “Supervisor on Duty” roster. 9. Ensures the general cleanliness of, and contributes to, the overall maintenance plans for the Aquatic Centre. 10. Provides back-up coverage for Aquatic Staff as required. 11. Acts as Leadhand/Supervisor as required.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:• 2-year Diploma in Recreation Administration, Leisure Studies or Facility Management• At least 3 years lifeguard/instructor experience, including 1 year at a supervisory (or senior) level • I Can Swim Instructor• Standard First Aid with Level “C” CPR• NLS pool option• Lifesaving Instructor• Two of the following awards: NLS Instructor, I Can Swim Teacher Trainer, LS Instructor Trainer, Standard First Aid/CPR Instructor, Aquafit Instructor • Demonstrated instructor, supervisory, decision-making and interpersonal skills. Required To Operate Equipment Such As: First Aid equipment, audio visual equipment, office equipment, computer with applications such as Outlook, Word, Point of Sale, CLASS, Windows, Finance tracking/budgeting software, Excel, Power Point and City vehicle.
