The Career.
As the Activation and Lifestyle Manager for a V!VA Community, you will mentor and manage both Team Members and volunteers. You will reach out to prospective Community Members, their families and local referral sources to coordinate the arrival of new Community Members, and provide guidance and services to meet their daily social and transportation needs. Reporting to the Community Director, you will be empowered to manage all aspects of the department and the related community resources and agencies who you will work with to ensure V!VA provides the best in overall care for its Community Members. You will make working and living at a V!VA Retirement Community an awesome experience by continually working to improve the customer service experience and developing an innovative working environment for Team Members.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates pre-opening needs of the retirement community by setting up the overall administrative needs of the department; implement customer and service culture standards.
  • Determines programming preferences, talents and needs through orientation, informal feedback, council meetings, discussions with family members, etc.
  • Designs and implements cultural, physical, intellectual, educational, spiritual, social, and special interest activities based on Community Members’ input.
  • Tracks Community Members’ activity participation and adjust calendar events accordingly.
  • Engages Community Member, Team Member, families and the external community in activities and volunteer opportunities.
  • Aligns with external organizations, family members, and educational institutions to establish synergistic partnerships for the delivery of quality programs and volunteerism.
  • Establishes an active volunteer program that a) promotes Community Member philanthropic involvement and b) recruits and supervises volunteers to assist in the delivery and creation of diverse programs.
  • Stays abreast active aging and generational trends to enhance programming.
  • Recruits and selects associates (where applicable) following V!VA’s hiring standards and tools; forwards final candidates to Community Director for final approval.
  • Coordinates and supervises Program Assistant(s) and Driver(s) schedules and duties.
  • Transports and/or accompanies Community Members to and from outside activities and appointments in community vehicle(s).
  • Coordinates vehicle maintenance with the Maintenance Manager.
  • Develops monthly newsletter and activity calendar.
  • Manages monthly budget for activity supplies, entertainment, food, etc., and staffing as appropriate.
  • Assists Community Director in preparation and execution of the department’s annual budget.
  • Works with other Department Heads in planning and conducting orientation and in-service training.
  • Participates in and attends all in-service training and education programs as scheduled.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Leads and coaches Program Assistants and Drivers (where applicable). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with V!VA’s
policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience facilitating activation programs within the Retirement Living industries. Supervisory experience an asset
  • Degree in Recreation Therapy, Activation or Health Care, with Gerontology background and/or Diploma
  • Personal Training Certification, Fitness Instructor Certification and/or Aqua Certification with previous experience in planning and delivering programs, for older adults.
  • Knowledge of Jewish cultures and traditions an asset
  • Staff/ Volunteer management experience an asset
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the use of Internet resources
  • Self managed, well organized, enthusiastic, leader who is a Team Player with excellent social, written and verbal communication skills that is able to connect and communicate effectively with diverse audiences
  • Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check result
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License with a good driving record, an asset
  • Positive attitude, enthusiasm and energy
  • Able to bend, stretch, sit and stand for long periods. Ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
