Compensation: $24.00 - $38.00 per hour
Hours of Work: Vary and are dependent on program registration/attendance. Programs are offered mornings, afternoons, and evenings on weekdays and weekends. Applicants may teach more than one class and at more than one location.

Responsibilities
Experienced aquatic fitness instructors teach a variety of fitness programs which may include the following: aquacize/shallow-water, deep-water workout or running programs, etc.
Responsibilities include:
  • Teach specific skills to participants through progressive physical fitness development and sharing of knowledge.
  • Plan and implementation of quality fitness programs.
  • Assess participant needs and provide adaptations as necessary.
  • Ensure safety of participants.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment, supplies and program space.
  • Maintain program records and assist with program evaluation.
  • Maintain high degree of customer service.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The successful applicants must be a minimum of 16 years of age, have Standard First Aid Certification and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) level "C" renewed annually. Also, must possess a current Aqua certification from the YMCA and/or Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA) or Canadian Aquafitness Leaders Alliance (CALA) certification or equivalent. Experience in aquafitness teaching is considered an asset.

Success in this position requires:
  • Demonstrated skill, knowledge and proficiency in area of instruction.
  • Excellent communication skills and positive representation of City Recreation programs.
  • Demonstrated initiative, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs of program and/or participants.
  • Sound judgment in safety standards.

  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
  • Only education obtained from an accredited institution will be recognized as meeting the minimum qualifications.
  • More than one position may be filled from this competition.
  • A security clearance will be conducted.
